Disadvantages

There are disadvantages of transferring washroom graffiti into the digital space. This list of disadvantages is based upon my interpretation of how one would read the "washroom graffiti" that was created on this website.

Having washroom graffiti transformed is disadvantageous because:

• Transferring the graffiti work on washroom stalls will immortalize the work in photograph form. Although uploading the photograph of the graffiti work online allows more visibility, the fact that the work is "captured" at a moment in time also hinders the growth of the graffiti work as a collaborative act.
  
  
• It does not allow the same flexibility and liberty as to where one wants to comment and respond to the graffiti work. Although a a comment box /forum can be created on the digital space for users to post their comments, it is not aesthetically the same.
  
  
• The element of surprise and time is no longer in effect. Washroom graffiti are often unexpected works and somewhat forces the reader to view the work when they are in a washroom stall. In addition, since there is nothing else to do in the washoom stall (except for the sole purpose of releasing bodily fluids), one may indulge in reading what is written on the washroom stall and may be more inclined to comment on it. Whereas the digitization of washroom graffiti requires users to look for topics and is not a random act. Thus, it may be more difficult to generate conversation that can be transformed into a narrative.
